Alumni Return in Record Numbers

"Alumni

More than 1,000 alumni are expected to return to alma mater this weekend – the largest attendance ever for Reunion.

Not surprisingly, the Class of 1982—which is observing its 25th reunion—will be best represented, with 164 attendees. They’re followed by the Class of 2002 with 129 attending their fifth reunion, and the Class of 1957 with 119 attending their 50th reunion. The Class of 1957 wins the “Spittoon Award” for the highest percentage of their class attending.

Travelling farthest to be with us is Cornelia Messler Sherman, Class of 1937, a math major who has come from England with eight children and grandchildren.

For the first time, alumni are being housed in the new North Woods apartments and dining in the newly renovated Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. They’re also getting a good look at the site that is being cleared for the new Zankel Music Center.

Highlights of the weekend include:

-Opening of the 13th Annual Reunion Art Exhibition at the Tang Museum;

-Annual Alumni Awards and Recognition Ceremony and Class Gifts Presentation in the Intramural Gym;

-Class celebrations and dinners Saturday night, followed by live music and dancing under the tent in Upper South Park

-14th Annual Fireworks Display in South Park

-Alumni Memorial Service Sunday morning in the Alumni Memorial Garden behind the Surrey Williamson Inn
