NYS Summer Writers Institute announces July special events

The traditional slate of free readings and discussions by participating and guest writers will again be a highlight of the New York State Summer Writers Institute at Skidmore College.

Scheduled July 2-27 on the Saratoga Springs campus, the institute features creative writing courses in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. An extraordinary faculty of distinguished writers, among them winners of such major honors as the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the Booker Prize, teach and participate in the series of readings and special events sponsored by the institute.

The following is the 2007 schedule of New York State Summer Writers Institute special events. All begin at 8 p.m. in Davis Auditorium of Palamountain Hall (except where noted). Admission to all events is free.

July 2—Poetry and fiction: Richard Howard, poet, and Kathryn Harrison, novelist-memoirist

July 3—Fiction and non-fiction: Elizabeth Benedict, novelist, and Katha Pollitt, columnist, The Nation
