Painter Janet Fish to give illustrated talk Monday, July 23

Artist Janet Fish, a realist painter and printmaker best known for her virtuoso still life paintings, will present an illustrated lecture on her work at 7 p.m. Monday, July 23, in Gannett Auditorium, Palamountain Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by Skidmore’s Office of the Dean of Special Programs.

A native of Boston, Mass., Fish was raised on the island of Bermuda. She studied art at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine; at Smith College, where she received a B.A. degree; and at Yale University School of Art and Architecture, where she received B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees. Fish is known for imbuing plain objects and everyday life with luminosity and inner movement, using richly colored, complex compositions.

Currently represented by DC Moore Gallery in New York, Fish has had numerous solo and group exhibitions across the country and internationally. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Cleveland Museum of Art; and New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art, among others.
