Capital Rep recognizes Carolyn Anderson as a

Carolyn Anderson, professor of theater at Skidmore, was named a ?Shining Star? by the board of the Capital Repertory Company at its recent annual meeting.

According to Richard Nacy, director of development at Capital Rep, Anderson was presented the award in recognition of her long service on the board. She joined the board of the regional theater company in 1981 and has actively worked to establish the organization in the area. In addition to providing financial support and serving on various committees of the board, she has been instrumental in serving as a link between the company and the community, including the higher education community.

Nacy said that this year Capital Rep was particularly grateful for Anderson?s help in bringing new talent to the organization. She coordinated the search for a new managing director, which ended successfully with the hiring of Elizabeth Doran, who had been with the La Jolla (Calif.) Playhouse. Anderson also led the search for a new education director, which resulted in the hiring of Maureen Aumand of Watervliet, N.Y. Anderson currently chairs Capital Rep?s education committee

?No one else comes close? in terms of serving Capital Rep, said Nacy.

Anderson, who also holds the title of Kenan Professor of Liberal Arts at Skidmore, came to the College in 1979. In the years since, she has chaired the Department of Theater, written a number plays, and directed countless others. She is particularly interested in the "Living Newspaper" genre, a documentary style of theater that focuses on social issues of the day. She is co-author (with Wilma Hall, a former Skidmore faculty member) of Faces: A Living Newspaper on AIDS, which was performed at Capital Rep in 1989, and most recently in collaboration with Jill Rafferty, created Petticoats of Steel: A Living Newspaper on Women?s Suffrage, for Capital Rep?s touring program.

?The Living Newspaper: Evolution and Revolution? was the title of Anderson?s 1989 Edwin M. Moseley Faculty Research Lecture at Skidmore. The Skidmore faculty decides who will deliver the annual Moseley lecture; it is considered the highest honor that the faculty confers upon a colleague. In 2002, Anderson was the second recipient of the Ralph A. Ciancio Award for Excellence in Teaching at the College.
