College officials discuss plans to enforce North Woods regulations with area residents

Skidmore held an educational session and discussion on public use of its North Woods on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The session, attended by approximately 40 local residents, focused on the vulnerability of the 250-acre parcel and guidelines developed by the college to protect that area's natural environment. The North Woods support a biologically diverse animal and plant population that is important to student and faculty research. Much of area is also available for public use.

Most of the comments from the public related to the guidelines for dog walking, which ask that dogs be leased and restricted to specific trails. While some of the attendees supported these rules, others spoke strongly in opposition to them. Skidmore representatives promised to review the guidelines and to consider the suggestions presented at the meeting.
