Rep. Gillibrand to announce 2007 College Affordability Act

Local Congresswoman Kirsten E. Gillibrand (NY-Hudson) will hold a press conference at Skidmore College on Tuesday, Sept. 4, to announce the 2007 College Affordability Tax Relief Act (HR 3388). The event will take place at 9:45 a.m. on the Case Center patio, facing Case Green.

The proposed legislation would increase tax deductions for college tuition and expenses for undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees and would make the deductions permanent (the current tax deductions are slated to expire in 2007). The bill is co-sponsored by Republican Congressman Randy Kuhl (NY-Hammondsport).

Said Gillibrand in a prepared statement, “I am thrilled to have my upstate colleague, Congressman Kuhl, a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor, co-sponsor this legislation.”

The campus community and the public are invited to attend the press conference.
