Campus Safety investigates bomb threat hoaxes

Campus Safety, the State Police, and Saratoga Springs Police are investigating several e-mail bomb threats received by the College and deemed to be hoaxes.

Campus Safety conducted external and internal inspections of all Skidmore buildings yesterday after the Office of Communications discovered in the college's general information e-mail inbox messages alluding to bombs. The messages made no reference to Skidmore or any buildings or person associated with Skidmore. Campus Safety immediately consulted with state and local police who are considering these threats to be a hoax and are investigating them as such. There have been recently other institutions receiving similar e-mail threats, which shed further doubt on the credibility of the threat.

Campus Safety, the State Police, and the Saratoga Springs Police are continuing to investigate the e-mail threats with the assistance of the College's Office of Information Technology. The threats are believed to have originated from off-campus.

If anyone receives an e-mail threat, we ask that you immediately notify Campus Safety (ext. 5567) and the Saratoga Springs Police.
