New e-mailed bomb threats also considered hoaxes

Campus Safety, the State Police, and Saratoga Springs Police are investigating several e-mail bomb threats received by the College over the weekend on the general e-mail account of the Office of Admissions.

The messages, which reference the approaching anniversary of 9/ll, make no mention of Skidmore or any buildings or person associated with Skidmore. Campus Safety immediately consulted state and local police, who are considering these threats to be a hoax and are investigating them as such with assistance from the College's Office of Information Technology.

Many other colleges and universities are reporting they've received similar or identical unspecified e-mail messages, shedding further doubt on the credibility of the threats. The College received several such threats last week, including a grouping that prompted the evacuation and closing of the Tang Museum for two hours Friday morning. All appear to have been generated off-campus, and some from servers offshore.

Campus Safety urges anyone who receives such a threat to immediately notify them by calling ext. 5567.
