Thoroughbred athletes recognized by Liberty League

Two volleyball players, two golfers, and a soccer player have won weekly awards from the Liberty League for their performances during the week ending Sept. 10.  

Rachel Sushner (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) was selected from the women’s soccer team, Erica Duncan (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius) and Becca Ormsby (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills) were honored for volleyball, and golfers Toby Spector (Waterville, Maine) and Ryan Lloyd (Toronto, Ontario) also picked up awards.

Sushner was named Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week. The junior scored three goals in the team's weekend sweep at the Manhattanville Valiant tournament. Down 1-0, she scored two goals in the game's final eight minutes to give Skidmore a 2-1 win over Moravian. The next day, she was credited with the game-winner in a 2-0 shutout over Eastern Connecticut.

Ormsby repeats as Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week after an outstanding performance at the Vassar Invitational. She led the Thoroughbreds in assists (148) for the second week in a row and also led the team in aces served (10) in a loss to New Paltz. The freshman setter now has 312 assists on the season and 20 serving aces, leading Skidmore in both of those categories.

Duncan also had an excellent performance at Vassar, earning Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week. The junior outside hitter led the Thoroughbreds in kills with 46 and was named to the Vassar all-tournament team. Duncan reached the 1,000- dig and 1,000-kill mark at the tournament, becoming just the fifth Skidmore athlete to accomplish that feat.

Spector shot a two-under par 142 (71-71) and won a playoff to take medalist honors in the Tim Brown Invitational.  Spector birdied the first playoff hole to lead the 13th-ranked Thoroughbreds to a 32-stroke win in the 14-team event.

Lloyd shot 76-71--147 to tie for seventh in his first collegiate event to add to Skidmore’s victory.
