New book by Mintz

Unruly Bodies latest work by Associate Professor of English Susannah Mintz

Associate Professor of English Susannah Mintz has written Unruly Bodies: Life Writing by Women with Disabilities (University of North Carolina Press, 2007).

According to the publisher, Unruly Bodies examines narratives by women with disabilities and discusses how writers challenge stereotypes about disability, gender, and identity. The book combines analyses of disability and feminist theories through the work of eight American autobiographers. Mintz shows how their stories challenge feminist idealizations and suggests that life stories can redefine the relation between embodiment and identity.

Mintz has previously published Threshold Poetics: Milton and Intersubjectivity (University of Delaware Press, 2003). Her research interests include seventeenth-century British literature and culture, autobiography, disability studies, feminist and psychoanalytic theory. She has served on the College's Committee on Academic Freedom and Rights, External Master of Arts for Liberal Studies Committee, University Without Walls Committee, and Women's Studies Advisory Board.
