How do we see images of objects and art events?

Kathryn Floyd, visiting assistant professor of art history, will present Skidmore?s annual Art History Lecture at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Davis Auditorium, Palamountain Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Titled "Viewing Lehmbruck/Seeing Grimm: A Photograph from the Degenerate Art Exhibition (Munich, 1937)," Floyd?s lecture will focus on an image of exhibition, which was organized by the National Socialist Party. Shot by Arthur Grimm, the photo is a document of the contents of Room Six of the show, including Wilhelm Lehmbruck?s Expressionist sculpture Kneeling Woman (1911). But the photograph also attempts to create its own reality beyond the exhibition. Ultimately, Grimm?s photograph asks us to think about how best to ?see? images of objects, aesthetic spaces, and art events.

Floyd joined the Skidmore faculty this year.
