Jazz Institute receives $10K grant from NEA

The Skidmore Jazz Institute has received a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), according to recent announcement from Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-20th). The program was one of nine to receive NEA grants totaling $118,000.

The institute, long a favorite with audiences from the campus and community, celebrated its 20th anniversary season in 2007. Offered under the auspices of the Office of the Dean of Special Programs, the jazz institute provides two weeks of serious jazz instruction for students of all ages. From the start, the Skidmore Jazz Institute has offered a series of free concerts, a wildly popular tradition that draws music fans from throughout the region to performances by top guest artists as well as jazz institute faculty and students.

Said Gillibrand, ?The arts are essential to the growth of a community and I am pleased to support so many worthwhile organizations and schools that promote art, music, literature, theater, and other creative expressions.?

In addition to the NEA, Skidmore?s Jazz Institute has received support from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Howard Bayne Foundation, the New York State Summer School of the Arts, and Blue Note/Capitol-EMI Records.
