Thoroughbred golfers repeat as Liberty League champs

The Skidmore golf team won its second straight conference title?the Liberty League championship?at the Saratoga Spa State Park golf course Sept. 27-28. Skidmore notched a victory margin of 17 strokes.

Junior Chris DeJohn (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led by shooting a three-under 69 in both rounds for six-under 138, while earning top individual honors. Joe Flowers (Benton, Maine) with 70-73?143; Sam DaSilva (Wyckoff, N.J.), 71-74?145; Matt Canavan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), 72-74?146; and Brendan Singleton (Manchester, N.H.), 74-75?149; were also named to the all-Liberty League team.

The volleyball team took third at the Oneonta Invitational Sept. 26-27, beating City College of New York, Kings College, and Sage College. Erica Duncan (San Francisco, Calif.) and Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.) were named to the all-tournament team.

The women?s tennis team competed at the Northeast Regional ITA tournament at William Smith College, where sophomore Danika Robison (South Burlington, Vt.) advanced to the finals of singles competition before falling to Lia Weiner of Rochester, who was the number-one seed going into the tournament. Robison beat teammate Rachel Loeb (Greenwood Village, Colo.) en route to the finals.

The Thoroughbred field hockey team went 1-1 on the weekend in Liberty League action, posting a 3-0 victory over Hamilton College before falling to St. Lawrence 4-3 in a double-overtime heartbreaker. Junior Elise Britt netted two goals in the Hamilton match and leads the Thoroughbreds with seven goals.

Women?s soccer also went 1-1 in their first weekend of conference play. The Thoroughbreds recorded a convincing 4-0 shutout over RPI and senior Rachael Sushner (Potomac, Md.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season. The Thoroughbreds suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Vassar College on Saturday.

Keil Corey (Bristol, Vt.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Vassar in men?s soccer action. The men also went 1-1 in conference action, falling to RPI 1-0 in a tough loss Friday. ~By Sytiva Seitz
