Activities

Casey Irving, assistant director of donor relations, is among the members of the Class of 2009 in Leadership Saratoga, sponsored by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. Now in its 23rd year, Leadership Saratoga is a six-month program that provides participants with the chance to sharpen their leadership skills through volunteer service and offers an orientation to issues that the county is facing. This year the program will focus attention on three organizations: Saratoga P.L.A.N., Home Made Theater, and the Academy for Lifelong Learning.

Publications, Performances

Pola Baytelman, senior artist-in-residence, Department of Music, has accepted an invitation to participate in the "Ninth International Festival of Spanish Keyboard Music-Diego Fern ndez" Oct. 11-12 in Almeria, Spain. She is one of a number of international scholars who will participate in the event, which will mark the anniversary of the death of Spanish composer Isaac Alb niz (1860-1909). Her lecture-recital is titled "Style evolution in the piano works of Isaac Alb niz." Baytelman has long studied and performed works by Alb niz and was the first person to catalogue the composer's works in her book, Isaac Alb niz: Chronological List and Thematic Catalog of His Piano Works (1993, Harmonie Park Press).

Linda Simon, professor and chair, Department of English, is the author of an essay titled "The Others: Henry James's Family," published in the Companion to Henry James, Greg Zaharias, editor, due Nov. 3 from Blackwell.

Roy Rotheim, Quadracci Professor of Social Responsibility and professor of economics, was interviewed for "Gillibrand, Treadwell address bailout" published Sept. 23 in the Glens Falls Post-Star.

Ron Seyb, associate professor of government, was a source for "Group widens clean politics pledge effort" published Sept. 24 in the Albany Times Union.

Gordon R. Thompson, professor of music, will be a guest Oct. 16 on "Round Table," airing on WAMC-FM (90.3). The segment is tentatively scheduled to air from 10:05 to 10:25 p.m. Thompson will discuss his forthcoming book Please Please Me: Sixties British Pop, Inside and Out, due in November from Oxford University Press.
