Men's soccer team records two weekend victories

The Skidmore men?s soccer team picked up wins over the College of St. Joseph and Union College in weekend play, improving their season to 9-5-2 in the process.

Five different Skidmore players scored for the home squad in a 5-0 rout of the College of St. Joseph. Sophomore Matt Kelsey (Cambridge, Mass.), junior Kevin Regan (Chevy Chase, Md.), sophomore Austin Fisher (Des Moines, Iowa), senior Dan von Allmen (Souderton, Pa.) and freshman Mark Jensen (Cambridge, Mass.) contributed scores in the contest, while Fisher and von Allmen each dished out assists.

Junior Keil Corey (Bristol, Vt.) scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Union College.

The women?s tennis team competed at the New York State Division III women?s tennis championships Oct. 18-19 at Ithaca College. Sophomore Rachel Loeb (Greenwood Village, Colo.) was the champion of the number-two Flight singles, while freshman Allie Burns (Mequon, Wis.) was the champion at the number-three flight singles, and junior Laura Attley (Chatham, N.J.) won the championship at the number-four flight singles.

Burns and Loeb also went the distance in number- two flight singles, winning 8-6 over Joy Backer and Krista Romita of Vassar.

Sophomore Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) led the field hockey team as it defeated Castleton State 4-0. Kemp leads the Thoroughbreds with 25 points, recording eight goals and nine assists. The team is now 9-3.

The women?s soccer team went 1-1 in the week, including a 1-0 non-conference victory over Utica College. Senior Rachael Sushner (Potomac, Md.) scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the win. The Thoroughbreds suffered a 1-0 loss the following day to Liberty League foe Union College. Sushner?s eight goals rank third in the Liberty League.

At the Wellesley Invite, the women?s volleyball team went 1-2, notching a 3-0 shutout of Bridgewater State College but dropping matches to both Wellesley and Nazareth College. ~By Sytiva Seitz
