Norman Thibodeau to perform during Skidmore Flute Festival

Flutist Norman Thibodeau, a special guest during the Skidmore College Flute Festival, will perform in concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in Filene Recital Hall on the Skidmore campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

Thibodeau will present a concert of modern flute repertoire, including his own compositions as well as the following selections: Flames Must Not Encircle the Sides, by Robert Dick; Zoom Tube, by Ian Clarke; Lipstick, by Jacob ter Veldhuis; and Thibodeau?s own Duo for Solo and Desirable Delays.

Since 1997, Thibodeau has performed innovative programs, Voice of the Flute, involving extended techniques such as double stops, percussive effects, and acoustic modifications to the flute. These performances also employ electronic effects such as digital delay. The programs feature improvisation and Thibodeau?s original works.

A member of the chamber group Musicians of Ma?alwyck, Thibodeau recorded solo flute music by Skidmore?s Anthony Holland for Albany Records, and works by Morton Gould and George Tsontakis with the Albany Symphony.
