Do video games offer benefits to senior citizens?

November 24, 2008

Paul Arciero, an associate professor of exercise science at Skidmore, and Cay Anderson-Hanley, an assistant professor of psychology at Union College in Schenectady, have received a $200,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to analyze the effects of "virtual" bicycle racing by senior citizens.

The researchers have 38 "cybercylists" at locations throughout the Capital District, including Prestwick Chase, a housing community for seniors in Saratoga Springs. That's where Cathleen F. Crowley of the Albany Times Union caught up with the scholars and the seniors, to learn more about how the process works. Read her story here.
