Writer Edmund White to give reading Dec. 2
The Skidmore College English Department will present a reading by Edmund White at
8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in Davis Auditorium of Palamountain Hall. Admission is free
and open to the public.
A novelist, biographer, cultural critic and chronicler of the contemporary gay experience,
White is the author of A Boy?s Own Story, States of Desire: Travels in Gay America, Genet: A Biography, Hotel
de Dream, and many other books.
He received the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1994 for Genet. His other honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1983, being designated a Chevalier
(later Officier) de L?Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 1993,
and membership in both the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy
of Art and Sciences.
Author John Irving has said, ?I believe Edmund White is one of the best writers of
my generation; he?s certainly the contemporary American writer I reread more than
any other, and the one whose next book I look forward to reading most.?
