CTM Photo Contest results announced

The votes have been tallied and the winners selected in the 2008 CTM Photo Contest.

Lucy Senesac ?09 won a $200 cash award for ?Patriotic Surfaces,? which received Best in Show honors. David Mishler ?09 won $150 for ?Frank 1,? in the Skidmore Life category; Jon Dorn ?09 was also the winner of $150 for "Schuylerville Sunrise - Mid-Drive to a Skidmore News cover photo shoot," which captured the Anything Goes title; and Chris Weigl ?11 was the winner of $200 for "Ethereal," which won the People?s Choice award.

A total of 329 entries were submitted this year, by far the largest number of submissions received in the three-year old photo contest, according to Elizabeth Katzman, Skidmore webmaster, who oversees the event. She said that the response this year was ?amazing.? She added, ?The photos really encompass a very broad view of the world around us.? Nearly 400 people cast votes.

This year?s contest featured some changes in the categories to allow more flexibility for photographers. Previously, entries were limited to photos that were taken either on Skidmore property or at a Skidmore event anywhere in the world. Said Katzman, ?This year we decided to add categories and see where it led us.? There were fewer digital art entries this year than in the past, she noted.

Feedback from faculty and staff has been positive. ?I know that they love the contest because it?s creative and fun. The fact that they get to help pick a winner and participate is icing on the cake,? said Katzman.

Winners have been posted in an online gallery. Prints of the photos will be framed and exhibited in the hall near the Communications office. Everyone is essentially a winner, since the entries become property of the Office of Communications available to be used on the Skidmore website and in printed publications, such as mailings to alumni.
