Hockey team extends win streak to four
The Skidmore men?s ice hockey team upset 14th-ranked Bowdoin College in a weekend
that saw the Thoroughbreds at home beating Bowdoin 6-4 on Saturday and Colby College
2-1 on Friday.
Saturday?s victory was Skidmore?s fourth in a row and its first over the Polar Bears
since 1999. Sophomore Joe Melnyk (Rotterdam, N.Y.) netted two goals to lead the Thoroughbreds, and classmate Brett Bandazian (Wyckoff, N.J.) tallied a goal and two assists.
The men?s basketball team also went undefeated over the weekend, posting wins over
Hartwick and Castleton to improve to 4-3.
Junior forward Bobby Langford (Worcester, Mass.) led Skidmore to a tough 78-75 win over Hartwick on Friday and
was one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Junior Jon
Douglas (Shutesbury, Mass.) led all scorers with 16 points in a 75-60 rout over Castleton
on Saturday.
Swimming and diving competed at the Liberty League Championship meet at RPI, where
freshman diver Doug Pilawa (Chesterland, Ohio) continued to break Skidmore records, placing fourth in one- meter
diving and fifth in three-meter diving. In the 1650-freestyle, Stephen Lento (Cincinnati, Ohio) came in with a time of 18:02.35 for ninth place.
For the women Jen Piepenbrink (Wenham, Mass.) placed sixth in the 1650-freestyle (19:11.40) and Kelsey Carson (Stamford, Conn.) finished eighth in the 200-butterfly (2:24.54). ~By Sytiva Seitz
