Carl Landa group to perform Saturday

Known throughout the Capital District for his strikingly original compositions in musical styles ranging from contemporary to klezmer, Carl Landa will present an evening of new, original music at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the Dance Theater at Skidmore College.

General admission is $5, $3 for students and senior citizens. Advance reservations are not accepted; tickets will be sold 45 minutes before the performance. Seating is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The musicians performing with Landa (keyboard and percussion) will include Jeff Stevens and Steve Lambert (both on trumpet and flugelhorn), Charlie Tokarz (saxophone and flute), Keith Pray (saxophone), Pat Perkinson (bass), and William Cantazaro and Scott Morehouse (drums and percussion). Video artist Alex Engel and actor Daniel Tieger '08 will contribute elements of film and poetry.

A full-time accompanist in the college's dance department, Landa plays piano, percussion and hammered dulcimer, among other instruments. He has composed scores for dance, video, film, television, and for Skidmore faculty and student dancers and choreographers. Before joining the Skidmore faculty in 2000, he accompanied classes on a full-time basis at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, Merce Cunningham Studio, Juilliard School, Jos Lim n Institute, and many private studios in New York.
