Award

Joanne Devine, associate professor of English, has been awarded a Collaborative Summer Research Grant to work with Andy Izenson ?09 on examining gender identities in cyberspace. Their project is called ?Performing Cybergender.?

-Molly Sherlock, lecturer, who presented ?Evidence on the Equalization of Property Taxes and School Spending with Implications for Achievement and Property Values Under Vermont?s Act 60,? for a session on State and Local Government: Spending on Health and Education,

Jay Rogoff, lecturer in English, spoke about reviewing dance to Professor Patricia Culbert?s Theater Criticism class March 5 at Union College.

Roy Rotheim, professor of economics and Quadracci Professor of Social Responsibility, was the guest speaker March 20 at the Third Thursday Breakfast of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, where spoke on the 2008 economy.

Exhibition

Doretta Miller, professor of art, is featured in an exhibit at Oakroom Artists Gallery in Schenectady through April 1.

Publications

Jennifer Bonner, assistant professor of biology, is a co-author (with Suzanna L. Gribble, Eric S. Veien, O. Brant Nikolaus, Gilbert Weidinger and Richard I. Dorsky, all of the University of Utah) of ?Proliferation and patterning are mediated independently in the dorsal spinal cord downstream of canonical Wnt signaling,? published in Developmental Biology, Vol. 313, No. 1, Jan.1, 2008.

Sarah Goodwin, professor of English, is the author of a chapter titled ?Rites, Rights, Writing: ?Tintern Abbey?, Death and the Will? included in the book Death Rites and Rights, edited by Belinda Brooks-Gordon, et al (Oxford: Hart Publishing). The volume examines diverse religious, social, legal, and medial meanings of death over time and across cultures.

Marc Woodworth, lecturer in English and associate editor of Salmagundi, translated Slovak poet Martin Solotruk?s ?How to Endure the Sun If Not Tiptoeing? for New European Poets, an anthology from Graywolf Press (2008), as well as two poems by North African poet Abdelmajid Kaouah for the journal Celaan, Vol. 5, Nos. 2 and 3, Fall 2007. (H di Abdel-Jaouad, professor of French, edits Celaan).
Woodworth's feature on singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams will appear in the Oxford Anthology of Great Music Writing (Fall 2008) and an excerpt from his book Bee Thousand was selected for Continuum?s anthology 33 1/3 Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 (2007).

Sandy Baum, professor of economics, was quoted in an editorial titled ?Endowment mandates are misguided,? published March 12 in the Tufts Daily.

Ian Berry, Malloy Curator at the Tang Museum, was a source for a March 14 Times Union article titled ?Virtual censorship.?

Robert Turner, associate professor of government, was a source for a variety of stories on the scandal involving former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, including the following:
