Brad Mehldau trio to perform April 6

Popular jazz pianist Brad Mehldau returns to Skidmore Sunday, April 6, to perform in concert with longtime sidemen Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums. The event gets under way at 8 p.m. in Filene Recital Hall. The concert, the last in this year?s Filene Concert Series at the College, is open to the public. Tickets are $5 general admission and $2 for students and senior citizens.

Mehldau is considered one of the most compelling, eccentric, daring and innovative young pianists on today?s jazz scene. His Skidmore performances (this is the third in recent years) consistently draw enthusiastic audiences.

Warner Records released Mehldau?s debut album in 1995. Two years later his follow-up recording Art of the Trio, Vol. 1, earned a four-star review in Down Beat Magazine. That same year, Mehldau won the Down Beat Critics Poll, received a Grammy nomination as jazz soloist, and won ?Best New Artist of 1997? in the Jazz Times readers poll.
