The College will host a "steel-raising" at the site of the college's future Arthur Zankel Music Center at 11 a.m. Friday, May 16, near the main entrance to the college, on North Broadway. The building is slated for completion in December 2009.

State Sen. Joseph L. Bruno, a 1952 Skidmore graduate, will attend and make a special announcement. Others scheduled to speak include Skidmore President Philip A. Glotzbach and Suzanne Corbet Thomas '62, chair of the Skidmore Board of Trustees.

In addition Martin Zankel, brother of the late Arthur Zankel, will attend to share news related to the college's current fundraising campaign, Creative Thought Bold Promise. The campaign received a significant boost two years ago when Martin announced that Skidmore was the largest beneficiary of his brother's estate. Arthur's $42-million bequest to Skidmore is the largest gift in the college's history. A portion of that bequest will fund the Zankel Music Center.
