Ice hockey beats Hamilton 3-2 in overtime

Skidmore?s men?s ice hockey team split its weekend games, beating Hamilton 3-2 in overtime and enduring a 3-0 loss to Amherst.

Sophomore Alex Mykolenko (Kharkov, Ukraine) scored the game-winner with 53 seconds left in overtime to seal the victory over the Continentals. Freshman goalie Andrew Ross (McKinney, Texas) earned his sixth victory of the season with 30 saves in the game, including two in the overtime period.

The women?s basketball team won its second straight Liberty League contest by defeating William Smith, 60-56, on Friday. Junior Sharlyn Harper (New York, N.Y.) paced the Thoroughbreds with a team-high 14 points, while senior Laura Michel (Middle Village, N.Y.) recorded seven points and 10 rebounds. The women dropped a close 52-49 decision to Hamilton on Saturday to move to 5-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Swimming and diving competed at the RPI Invitational over the weekend, with seniors Kristen Zebrowski (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Jen Piepenbrink (Wenham, Mass.) picking up big wins. Zebrowski swam a season-best time of 2:02.23 in the 200-freestyle, finishing second, and Piepenbrink finished seventh in the 1,000-freestyle with a personal-best time of 11:27.55.

Men?s basketball lost a heartbreaking 61-60 conference match-up with Hobart that was not decided until the final seconds ticked off the clock. Sophomore Jeff Altimar (Medfield, Mass.) finished with 13 points in the loss. Freshman Brian Lowry (West Hartford, Conn.) scored 11 points in an 81-61 loss to Hamilton on Saturday. ~By Sytiva Seitz
