Activities

Dan Forbush, executive director of communications, made two recent presentations on the implications of social networks (and especially Facebook) for colleges and universities. At the annual meeting of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Feb. 1-4 in Washington, D.C., he spoke on ?How Social Networks are Changing Academic Public Relations, Marketing and Alumni Affairs.? He discussed the same subject in a Jan. 8 presentation at Washington University in St. Louis.

Ray Giguere, Class of 1962 Term Professor and professor of chemistry, previewed the exhibition ?Molecules that Matter? in a Feb. 3 presentation at Grinnell College, part of a three-day symposium on global pharmaceuticals. Sponsored by Grinnell?s Rosenfield Progam in Public Affairs, International Relations, and Human Rights, the event featured speakers representing global health, law, and the National Academy of Sciences.

Publications and Performances

Carolyn Anderson, Kenan Professor of Liberal Arts and professor of theater, directed a staged reading of ?Kreisler?s Long Sleep,? a new play by Houston Chronicle film critic (and former Albany Times Union reporter) Amy Biancolli, during the ?Biggest Little International Play Festival 2? Jan. 26 at Capital Rep in Albany.

Joel Brown, senior artist-in-residence, Department of Music, will perform with Kristin Bacchiocchi at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in a guitar-flute concert at the recital hall in the University at Albany Performing Arts Center. Tickets may be purchased through the center box office, 442-3997. In addition, Brown performed with the band Triple Play Jan. 24 in a concert at the Simmons Center in Stephens County (Okla.). In addition to Brown, the band includes Chris Brubeck and Bill Crofut.

Steven Millhauser, Tisch Professor of Arts and letters and professor of English, is the author of a new short story, ?The Invasion from Outer Space,? published in the Feb. 9 issue of The New Yorker.

Tom Lewis, professor of English, was the source of a feature story, ?Author: Obama plan recalls Ike?s,? published Feb. 1 in The Sunday Gazette.

Robert Turner, associate professor of government, was a source for ?GOP takes aim at Murphy,? a story published Feb. 3 in The Post-Star (Glens Falls).
