Orchestra program includes Schubert?s 'Unfinished' Symphony

Schubert scholar Thomas Denny to give pre-concert talk

Skidmore Schubert scholar and Professor of Music Thomas Denny will speak on the puzzle of Franz Schubert?s ?Unfinished? Symphony No. 8 before a performance of that well-known work by the Skidmore Orchestra this Saturday, Feb. 21, in Filene Recital Hall.

Denny has a long-standing interest in Schubert?s music, and has published and lectured extensively on that subject. The pre-concert talk will take place at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m. General admission is $5 or $2 for seniors, and Skidmore students will be admitted free with a student ID.

Music Director Anthony Holland will lead the orchestra in a program that will also include Schubert?s ?Rosamunde? Overture, and will feature Student Concerto Competition winner Hanna Tonegawa ?11 as soloist in Camille Saint-Saens? Violin Concerto No. 3.
