Grammy Award-winner McBride to perform

February 26, 2009

Jazz bass player Christian McBride brings his talent-powered band to Skidmore College?s Filene Recital Hall Monday, March 2, for a concert of music described by ?All About Jazz.com? as ?churningly funky, jam-band jazz.? Presented in the Filene Concert Series, the event will begin at 8 p.m. and is open to the public. General admission is $5, or $2 for students and seniors.

Considered one of this decade?s best acoustic bass players, McBride has performed with artists including McCoy Tyner, Sting, Kathleen Battle, and Diana Krall. His recordings also encompass a diverse canon of original compositions and imaginatively arranged covers.

A Grammy Award-winner, he serves as co-director of the Jazz Museum in Harlem, and as artistic director at both the Jazz Aspen Snowmass summer festival and the Dave Brubeck Institute at the University of the Pacific.

The Christian McBride Band includes Ron Blake, saxophone; Geoffrey Keezer, keyboard; and Terreon Gully, drums. Blake, who also plays with the Saturday Night Live Band, performed at Skidmore in another Filene Concert Series event in November 2007, with the Reuben Rogers Group.
