Spring break gives athletes an early-season start

Skidmore?s men?s tennis team excelled during its spring training trip, collecting a 3-1 record during four games in Orlando, Fla.

The Thoroughbred men are now ranked 26th nationally, with victories over two top-25 teams this spring, including a 5-4 triumph over 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport University. The team began with a 9-0 shutout of Wheaton College and followed with a 7-2 victory over Coe College. The only loss was a 7-2 decision in a match with Vincennes University.

Junior Matt Levesque (Duxbury, Mass.) tallied five goals against Whittier College to lead the men?s lacrosse team to a 10-7 win during its spring break trip in San Diego, Calif. The men suffered an 8-7 loss to Ursinus in the other contest they played last week. Junior Nick Coppola led the way with two goals and an assist.

The softball squad ended the recess with a 5-5 record at the Cocoa Beach Expo in Cocoa Beach, Fla. Freshman pitcher Sam Crose earned all five wins on the mound for the Thoroughbreds, who will travel to Castleton State College for their next doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25.

Women?s tennis also had a solid outing over break as the team posted a 2-1 record. Skidmore rebounded from a tight 5-4 loss in its first match to Chapman University with victories over LaVerne (9-0) and the University of Texas-Tyler (7-2).

Sophomore Kimberly Segalas and junior Abbie Klaus led the women?s lacrosse team to a 14-11, come-from-behind victory over Goucher College, evening the team?s record to 1-1. The game took place March 10 at Goucher.
