Flutist George Pope next in Filene Concert Series

Internationally acclaimed flutist George Pope will perform at Skidmore Friday, March 20, in a concert of mostly romantic and 20th-century music, accompanied by pianist Eric Charnofsky. The Filene Concert Series event begins at 8 p.m. in Filene Recital Hall, and is open to the public. General admission to the event is $5, or $2 for students and seniors.

A hugely popular teacher well known for his master classes, Pope is professor of flute at the University of Akron, and also teaches at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory in Ohio.

He was principal and solo flute in the Akron Symphony Orchestra for nearly 25 years, and has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Red (an orchestra), the Ohio Ballet Orchestra and many other ensembles both in the U.S. and abroad. He is immediate past president of the National Flute Association.

At Skidmore, Pope will perform music by Andr Caplet, Beethoven, Dan Welcher and Luigi Cortese, among others.
