Kennedy to participate in Skidmore Film Festival
Skidmore alumnus Scott Hamilton Kennedy, whose documentary film The Garden was nominated for an Academy Award this year, returns to campus this week to screen
his film during the second annual Skidmore International Film Festival, Thursday through
Saturday, March 26 to 28.
To take place in Gannett Auditorium of Palamountain Hall, the three-day event will
feature critically acclaimed films, a chance to interact with the directors, and a
student competition. Admission is free and open to the public. Aaron Davis ?09, himself
a filmmaker, coordinated the event.
The schedule is as follows:
? Thursday, March 26, 7 p.m.? A Walk to Beautiful, followed by a Q&A with award-winning director and producer Mary Olive Smith. The
documentary focuses on five Ethiopian women who have suffered serious injuries during
childbirth as they embark to find healing.
? Friday, March 27, 7 p.m.?Student filmmakers showcase their short films to compete
for cash prizes. Winners will be determined by the audience. Free banana splits will
be available.
? Saturday, March 28, 7 p.m.? The Garden, followed by a Q&A with director Kennedy, a 1987 Skidmore graduate. The film focuses
on a 14-acre garden in Los Angeles sold to a millionaire developer below fair-market
value, highlighting the social injustice among the wealthy and less-fortunate. Features
