Poet, critic Lloyd Schwartz to highlight poetry events

Poet, critic, and scholar Lloyd Schwartz will be on campus Thursday and Friday, March 26 and 27, for readings of his poetry and that of Elizabeth Bishop.

Schwartz will read from his work at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Surrey Williamson Inn on North Broadway. On Friday, March 27, at 3 p.m. he will talk about Bishop?s life and work, and Skidmore faculty and students will read favorites from her poetry in Room 202 of Palamountain Hall.

Schwartz, co-editor of the Library of America volume Elizabeth Bishop: Poems, Prose, and Letters, is the Frederick S. Troy Professor of English at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. He has authored three books of poetry ( Cairo Traffic; Say Goodnight, Gracie; and These People), contributes regularly to National Public Radio?s ?Fresh Air,? and is the classical-music editor for The Boston Phoenix. Schwartz was awarded the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for criticism.
