Baseball routs Hamilton 20-9, splits with Plattsburgh

Junior shortstop Anthony Ferri (Jersey City, N.J.) had three hits with four RBI and four runs scored to lead Skidmore?s baseball team to a 20-9 victory over Hamilton Sunday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds rapped out 22 hits in the contest, including a 3-for-3 performance from freshman Brian Lowry (West Hartford, Conn.).

In Saturday?s home opener, the Thoroughbreds split with rival Plattsburgh as freshman Nick Laracuente (Tenafly, N.J.) went the full nine in game two to pick up a 4-3 win. Ferri was 3-3 in the win with 12 assists from shortstop. Skidmore fell 3-2 in game one.

The 25th-ranked women?s tennis team picked up two road wins by defeating SUNY New Paltz Saturday and St. Lawrence Sunday, improving to 8-2 this season. The women take a five-match win streak into an April 1 showdown with 13th-ranked Middlebury.

Softball boasts a 7-5 record following a home sweep of Castleton State Wednesday, where freshman pitcher Sam Crose (Assonet, Mass) picked up her seventh win on the mound this season. Sophomore Caitlin Ketcham (North Clarendon, Vt.) hit two home runs in the doubleheader, including a walk-off two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two to clinch it for the Thoroughbreds, 9-7. Skidmore shut out Castleton in the first game, 4-0.

Women?s lacrosse is off to a 3-2 start after sophomore Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, Conn.) scored a game-high six goals and had two assists to lead the Thoroughbreds to a 17-6 win over Castleton State Tuesday. The women?s three-game win streak was halted by a 13-6 loss to Amherst last Wednesday.

The men?s lacrosse team tallied a 14-7 win over Amherst led by junior Matt Levesque?s (Duxbury, Mass.) seven goals last Tuesday. The Thoroughbreds played 20th-ranked St. Lawrence Saturday and despite coming back in the second-half, fell 11-8 to the Saints.

Men?s tennis suffered its first loss of the season Saturday against sixth-ranked Amherst, 8-1. ~ By Sytiva Seitz
