Mickey Factz headlines upcoming Hip Hop concert

April 7, 2009

Skidmore?s Hip Hop Alliance will host a ?future stars of Hip Hop concert? Saturday, April 11, on the Case Green.

The event begins at 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

All of the acts are independent artists well on their way to fame, according to Danny Tejada ?09, president of the Hip Hop Alliance. He suggests that people ?catch these artists now, on their way up.?

Headlining the event is Mickey Factz, who has been praised by Spin, Vibe, and XXL magazines and has performances scheduled throughout the country this month. Also scheduled to perform are BK Cyph, Loj, and the Incomparable Shakespeare.

Tejada studies and analyzes Hip Hop culture in his self-described role as a ?Hip Hop culturalist.? He explained that Factz is from the Bronx and has earned notice by doing a weekly free music giveaway online called The Leak. He is one of the very few unsigned artists with a music video on MTV (?Rockin ?n Rollin? Remix with the Cool Kids?). He also has been featured in a TV commercial for Honda.

He has an album due for release this summer. Click here for details on Mickey Factz.

Opening the event will be the Incomparable Shakespeare from Brooklyn. Well-known on a number of top-notch music blogs such as 2dopeboyz.com, he has a single, ?Fresh,? currently available on iTunes, as well as four free mixtapes.

BK Cyph, also from Brooklyn, is making a return visit to Skidmore. His recordings include the single ?Never Sold Crack? and the forthcoming mixtape, ?Rhymes Are Easy, Life is Hard.?

Loj, of Queens, is well known on the New York scene and has his debut album, ?No Labels? is available on iTunes. He also previously performed at Skidmore.

Other sponsors of the concert are Skidmore?s Office of Student Diversity Programs, Ujima, and Students Organized Against Racism.
