Saratoga Reads to wrap up with April 26 campus event

The College?s annual Community Day and Kids? Fair will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in upper South Park (rain location inside Case Center).

Benef-Action is once again teaming up with Saratoga Reads to present a fun-filled afternoon for the entire family. The theme this year will be bees and beekeeping, in celebration of the current Saratoga Reads book of choice, The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd.

The event will feature arts and crafts, games, musical entertainment by Skidmore groups, and master balloon artist Wizzie. A special feature will be programs on bees, beekeeping, and honey production, presented by the Scotia-Glenville Traveling Museum and by beekeeper Leo Siemion.

The bee theme continues that same afternoon with a panel discussion titled ?The (Not So) Secret Life of Bees,? which will explore the importance of honeybees and their role in local agriculture. Sponsored by the friends of the Saratoga Public Library, the discussion will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. in the library?s Harry Dutcher Community Room. Led by a panel of experts on beekeeping, the session will seek to debunk some of the myths about bees and reveal the pivotal role of the honeybee in agriculture. Admission is free and no reservations are required.
