Young Writers Institute readings announced
Participants in the New York State Summer Young Writers Institute, a creative writing
program for high school students in grade 10 and older, will read from their works
on Friday, July 24. Free and open to the public, the reading will take place from
2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Davis Auditorium of Palamountain Hall.
Offered under the auspices of Skidmore?s Office of the Dean of Special Programs,
the Young Writers Institute is a weeklong creative writing workshop where high school
students receive instruction in poetry, prose, and imaginative non-fiction. The Young
Writers Institute overlaps with the New York State Summer Writers Institute (for writers
who are college-age and older), which takes place during July at the College. A major
benefit of both programs is the presence of nationally acclaimed authors as teachers
and visiting scholars, many of whom interact with students in the classroom and during
special events such as readings and discussions.
