Studio art program to host The Grand Finale

Skidmore?s Summer Studio Art Program announces ?the Grand Finale,? a public celebration of the conclusion of the summer 2009 program, on Friday, Aug. 7.

?The Grand Finale? features a number of activities, including an open house in the Saisselin Art Building, with all studios on all three floors open to public.  Summer students, faculty and staff will be in attendance.  The open house is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. and will showcase an exhibition of works from this summer?s art classes and workshops.

In addition, the Case Center Gallery will feature a bronze casting exhibit of artworks created this summer.  Located on the second floor of Case Center, the gallery will be open from 6 to 8 p.m.

Also scheduled is a film expo of works created by students in this summer?s Digital Film Making class and workshop.  Ongoing screenings begin at 6:30 p.m. in Room 109 at the Saisselin Art Building.

An exhibition by Boston sculptor Nathalie Miebach, whose work is an intersection of art and science, will also be open in the Schick Art Gallery during Friday?s celebration.

Katie DeGroot, director of the summer studio art program, said, ?This has been a particularly exciting and rewarding summer with a roster of visiting artists that included Jessica Stockholder, Judy Moonelis, Tim Rollins, Terry Adkins, Michael Oatman, and Xaviera Simmons. A stellar Summer Faculty Exhibition and slide lecture, as well as many brown bag lunch events, kept students motivated as they produced high quality works in the studios throughout an energetic session.?

The Summer Studio Art Program is under the auspices of Skidmore?s Office of the Dean of Special Programs.

All activities on Friday are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
