Professor Victor Cahn authors 4 books

Professor of English Victor Cahn has this year published four books:   two volumes of plays and two of non-fiction prose a memoir and his vision on undergraduate education.

A member of the Skidmore faculty since 1982, Cahn, who teaches courses in the history of drama, Shakespeare, and modern drama, is also an actor and an accomplished violinist.   His publications are numerous and include books on Shakespeare, critical studies of Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard, and many essays on students and college life.

Here are details on his recent books:

Fit to Kill (2008, Samuel French) A thriller about strategy, deception, and betrayal.   The Albany Times Union calls it "a comic thriller with enough plot twists to fill a festival quick exposition, swift character development, perfect dialogue ."

Roses in December (2009, Resource Publications) A collection of what the playwright calls "chamber plays" about relationships in their comic and dramatic variety. The author notes, "All share a common theme:   the development of a single relationship and all reflect an affinity for irony, both linguistic and dramatic."

Classroom Virtuoso Recollections of a Life in Learning (2009, Rowman & Littlefield Education) In this volume, Cahn presents insights about learning of all kinds, sharing candid reflections on his career and on what it means to be a teacher.

Conquering College: A Guide for Undergraduates (2009, Rowman & Littlefield Education) A guide for college students, once they have arrived on campus.   Cahn provides a blueprint for undergraduates, including information on making the transition from high school to college, the pitfalls and rewards of campus life, and the challenges of academic, personal, and social freedom.
