Graney to lead Research Colloquium discussion

Kate Graney, associate professor and chair of the Department of Government, will be the featured speaker at the first event of the academic year sponsored by the Skidmore Research Colloquium.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 5:30 p.m. in the Murray-Aikins Dining Hall (second floor), Graney will give a lecture based on her recently published book, Of Khans and Kremlins: Tatarstan and the Future of Ethno-Federalism in Russia (Lexington Books, 2009). The book offers a complex discussion of the management of cultural pluralism and sovereignty in Soviet and post-Soviet Russia, and has been hailed as one of the first works by a Western author writing in English on this subject.

The talk will be followed by discussion and dinner.

The Skidmore Research Colloquium was instituted last year to provide a formal space for faculty to share their research and participate in research-oriented activities such as grant-writing workshops, panel discussions, and book readings. Once each semester, a faculty member presents ongoing or recently published research to a group of interested colleagues, followed by a dinner and discussion. While these events are typically intended for faculty and staff, personal guests are welcome. Faculty members who would like to invite a student with an interest in the topic under discussion should feel free to do so.
