Women's tennis defeats regional rival Union

The Skidmore women's tennis team easily defeated Union 8-1 on Saturday.   Junior Danika Robison (South Burlington, Vt.) continued to play well, winning 6-2, 6-0 at number-one singles and combined with freshman Nataly Mendoza (San Francisco, Calif.) to win 8-2 at number-one doubles. Senior Laura Attley (Chatham, N.J.) also made a strong effort, winning 6-2, 6-1 at number-two singles and teaming with fellow senior Dani Fancher (St. Louis, Mo.), to win number-two doubles 8-0. Women's tennis will travel to Middlebury, Vt. this weekend for the Middlebury Doubles Tournament.

The volleyball team went 3-1 this week, finishing third at the Oneonta State Red Dragon Invitational.   Junior Becca Ormsby (Charlton, N.Y.) earned All-Tournament honors after averaging 28 assists over the four games, including 38 in the 3-0 victory over Plattsburgh.   Sophomore Kelly Vershbow (Washington, D.C.) totaled a team-leading 58 kills and 10 total blocks over the four games. Volleyball improved to 13-4 on the season and will participate in this weekend's Interleague Challenge at Union College.

Women's soccer finished the week 1-1 after a 1-0 victory at Utica College on Saturday.   Senior Jenni Hibbard (Dedham, Mass.) scored the game-winner and sophomore Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) stopped three shots for the shutout.   The Thoroughbreds are now 8-2-1 and will host Vassar at 4 p.m. Friday.

Field hockey saw a six-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss at 15 ^th-ranked Middlebury College last Tuesday. Sophomore Jackie Slocombe (Amherst, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Thoroughbreds, who hosts St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. Friday. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
