Activities

Tonya Dodge, assistant professor of psychology, attended the 2009 Australian Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport Oct. 14-17 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center. She was part of a symposium titled "Drugs in Sport: Informing Athlete Support Personnel," where she presented a paper titled "Where Youth Get Information about Doping Substances: Implications for Sports Medicine Practitioners and Parents."

Mary Kathryn Jablonski, assistant to the director of the Schick Art Gallery, recently read her poetry at SUNY Upstate Medical University's Center for Bioethics and Humanities in Syracuse. Her poem "Mare Undarum (Sea of Agitation)" was published in October in Volume 9 of the center's journal The Healing Muse( hlgmuse@upstate.edu), which focuses particularly but not exclusively on themes of medicine, illness, disability and healing.

Jablonski also gave an illustrated lecture in November at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Visual Poetry to students in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Department of Language, Literature and Communication.

In the News

Roy H. Ginsberg, Joseph C. Palamountain Jr. Professor of Government, and Mary-Beth O'Brien, professor of German and chair, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, were guests Nov. 9 on the "Roundtable" program on WAMC-FM. They discussed the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago and life in a reunited Germany since then.

In addition, Ginsberg is the author of "Germany's turn to give back," an opinion essay published Nov. 9 in the Albany Times Union.

Beth Post-Lundquist, director of financial aid, was a quoted in the story, "The higher cost of higher ed," published Nov. 5 in the Times Union.

Ron Seyb, associate professor of government, was a source for a story titled "Murphy explains 'nay' vote on health care reform bill," published Nov. 10 in the Glens Falls Post-Star.
