Award

Robin Adams, assistant director of leadership activities, has been named a "Campus Event-Planner of the Year" by a collection of event-planning agencies headed by Power Performers, Inc.  The award, in the category of "Best Overall Event" was for a program featuring Robert Channing, a popular mentalist/mind-reader, which drew a large, enthusiastic crowd to the Spa last year.  Awards were presented in nine different categories to event planners at colleges/universities around the country.  The goal of the award program is to recognize those on campus who make events happen. As the organizers note, "Entertainers get awards all the time but the planners that made them popular are never recognized."

Activities

Marie Glotzbach, lecturer in theater and community relations officer, has been named to the advisory board of the Leadership Saratoga program, sponsored by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. The program, now in its 24 ^th year, trains volunteer leaders for Saratoga County.

Publications/Performances

"Ring Shout," by Yacub Addy, lecturer, Department of Music, and Wynton Marsalis, will set the stage for an upcoming HBO drama series titled Treme, about New Orleans and its ongoing effort to recover from Hurricane Katrina. Treme (pronounced truh-MAY) is named for an African-American and Creole neighborhood with a rich musical tradition."Ring Shout" is the opening piece/movement in "Congo Square," a two-hour composition by Addy and Marsalis that honors "Congo Square" in New Orleans. HBO is utilizing the piece for eight weeks for television and Internet advertisements for the series, which starts in April. David Simon (The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Street) is creator of the series. The second edition of Demystifying the European Union: The Enduring Logic of Regional Integration, by Roy H. Ginsberg, Joseph C. Palamountain Jr. Professor of Government, was released Feb. 5 by Rowman and Littlefield.
