Spring sports season now under way

Men's lacrosse improved to 2-0 with a 12-7 victory Saturday over Hartwick. Seniors Cory Barkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) and Tom Howley (Colonia, N.J.) each had three goals and two assists as 10 different players recorded at least a point for Skidmore. Senior Flip Bongaerts(New Canaan, Conn.) finished with 12 saves in net. The Thoroughbreds will host Western Connecticut St. at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13.

Baseball opened the season with a split a Stevens Tech, dropping game one, 5-2, and winning the second game, 8-2. Skidmore hammered out 22 hits in the two games, led by senior Jake Mendell (St. George, Vt.) who went 3-5 with three doubles; and classmate Anthony Ferri (Jersey City, N.J.) who went 2-4 with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored in game two. The Thoroughbreds will return to action Saturday, March 13, when they take on Muskingum in Port Charlotte, Fla., as part of their spring trip.

Women's tennis earned a pair of 8-1 victories this weekend over William Smith and Ithaca. Junior Rachel Loeb (Greenwood Village, Colo.) won at No. 2 singles both days and teamed with freshman Brittany Trimble (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) to win at No. 3 doubles both days. Senior Danika Robison (South Burlington, Vt.) and freshman Nataly Mendoza (San Francisco, Calif.) joined forces to sweep number one doubles. Skidmore takes on Connecticut College this Sunday, March 14.

Ice hockey's season ended with Friday night's 3-0 ECAC Semifinal loss to Babson at Norwich. Sophomore Andrew Ross (McKinney, Texas) made 23 saves on 25 shots for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore ended with a 9-16-2 overall record. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
