Spring sports in full swing following a week of travel

Baseball finished its spring trip with a 6-2 record and the team is now 7-3 overall. Over the past week, the Thoroughbreds went 3-1 with the only loss a 3-1 decision in 13 innings to No. 2 Wooster. In a 12-4, 10-3 sweep of Becker, senior Anthony Ferri (Jersey City, N.J.) went 6-for-9 with four RBI and classmates Spencer Marcus (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Derek Stork (Penn Yan, N.Y.) picked up the victories on the mound. Skidmore starts Liberty League play this Saturday, March 27, at Vassar.

Softball finished the Rebel Spring games with a 5-5 record. Sophomore Sam Crose (Assonet, Mass.) nailed all five wins in the circle for Skidmore as senior Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.) and freshman Julia Schwartz (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) carried the load offensively. Dinsdale finished the week batting .438 with a homerun and seven RBI and Schwartz batted .333 with four homeruns and eight RBI. The Thoroughbreds are at Castleton this Wednesday, March 24.

Men's lacrosse finished with a 1-1 record on the road this past week, defeating U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and falling to No. 14 Haverford. In the Haverford contest, senior Matt Levesque (Duxbury, Mass.) scored five goals and classmate Cory Barkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) had a goal and three assists. In the win at USMMA, eight different players scored as Barkoff, senior Tom Howley (Colonia, N.J.), and freshman J.P. Sullivan (Floral Park, N.Y.) each had two goals and an assist. Men's lacrosse is now 4-1 and takes on Tufts at Hofstra on Wednesday, March 24.

Women's lacrosse finished the spring-break trip to Colorado with a 1-1 record. On Tuesday, Skidmore defeated Fort Lewis 19-3 as 11 different players scored, highlighted by junior Lindsay Stavola's (Montauk, N.Y.) four goals and two assists. On Wednesday, the Thoroughbreds suffered their first loss of the season, falling 14-13 to Colorado College. During that game, Stavola scored four goals and sophomore Lauren Madden (Huntington, N.Y.) had three goals and two assists. Women's lacrosse stands at 4-1 on the early season with a 19-10 non-conference win over Castleton State College March 22 at Spartan Stadium. Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, CT) scored five goals to lead nine different Thoroughbred scorers in the game.

Women's tennis earned a 5-4 victory Sunday over Rochester. Senior Danika Robison (South Burlington, Vt.) and freshman Nataly Mendoza (San Francisco, Calif.) won at number-one doubles, defeating the second-ranked team in the Northeast region. Sophomore Tory Engros (Bronxville, N.Y.) and freshman Brittany Trimble (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) each went 2-0, winning at doubles and singles. Skidmore returns to action this Friday, March 26, against Washington and Lee at the Fab Five Tournament at University of Mary Washington.

The golf team opened its spring season with a strong showing at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invite, finishing fifth of 27 teams. Senior Chris DeJohn (Rocky Hill, Conn.) tied for first among individuals, shooting a 67-74-72 - 213. He finished three under par and his first round 67 was the low score for the tournament. Senior Brendan Singleton (Rye, N.H.) tied for 20 ^th with 78-73-74 - 225 (+9). The Thoroughbreds are back in action April 4 at the Yale Invitational. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
