Spring weather brings another big week for Thoroughbreds

Men's lacrosse defeated league-rival St. Lawrence 10-9 on Saturday, snapping the Saints' 32-game league winning streak. Freshman Bryan Connolly (Babylon, N.Y.) led Skidmore with three goals and senior goalie Flip Bongaerts (New Canaan, Conn.) recorded 16 saves. Earlier in the week, senior Cory Barkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) tallied six goals in a 10-9 loss at 19 ^th-ranked Rensselaer. The Thoroughbreds are now 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the league and will face Middlebury on April 13 at 4:30 p.m.

Baseball improved to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in the league after taking three of four games from Clarkson this past weekend. Skidmore allowed just two runs in the three victories behind complete games from junior Trevor Brucato (Stamford, Conn.) and seniors Derek Stork (Penn Yan, N.Y.) and Spencer Marcus (Scarsdale, N.Y.). With the victory on Saturday, Marcus improved to 5-0 on the season and became the college's all-time wins leader. The Thoroughbreds host St. Michael's for a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m.

Softball had a 1-1 week, splitting a doubleheader with Middlebury on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Tara DeGeorge (Seaford, N.Y.) had two RBI and sophomore Sam Crose (Assonet, Mass.) earned the win, tossing a complete game allowing just one unearned run in the 4-1 victory. Skidmore's record stands at 8-8 on the season and they will host Sage College at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7.

Women's lacrosse posted a dominating 14-3 victory over Smith on Wednesday night. Sophomore Lauren Madden (Huntington, N.Y.) led the Thoroughbred attack with four goals and junior Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, N.Y.) added three goals and two assists. Skidmore opens league play on Tuesday, April 6, when they host Union College at 7 p.m.

The golf team finished sixth out of 12 teams at this weekend's Yale Invitational with the top-5 teams being Division I schools. The Thoroughbreds shot a 295-306- 601 and were just two strokes behind fourth-place Sacred Heart. Senior Chris DeJohn (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had the low score for Skidmore, shooting a 73-72 - 146 to finish in 6 ^th place, four strokes off the leader. The Thoroughbreds host the Palamountain Invitational this weekend.

Men's tennis defeated Hobart 8-1 on Saturday. Sophomore Luke Granger (Allendale, N.J.) won at number one singles, 6-2, 7-6 and teamed up with classmate Max Bevan (Convent Station, N.J.) to win 8-2 at number two doubles. Skidmore hosts St. Lawrence at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 10.

Women's tennis finished the week 1-1, losing 3-6 at the College of New Jersey and wining 6-3 at Swarthmore. Junior Rachel Loeb (Greenwood Village, Colo.) finished the weekend with a 3-1 record, winning both her number two singles matches and going 1-1 at number three doubles. The Thoroughbreds host Middlebury at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7.
