Baseball clinches NCAA berth with Liberty League title

Baseball clinched its third NCAA Division III Tournament bid with a 3-1 victory Sunday over Clarkson in the Liberty League Championship. The Thoroughbreds went 3-0 during the tournament, defeating Clarkson twice and knocking off top-seeded Rochester. Senior Adam Cornachione (Klamath Falls, Ore.) was named the tournament MVP, while classmate Spencer Marcus (Scarsdale, N.Y.), junior Nick Laracuente (Tenafly, N.J.) and sophomore Zack Rudman(Pittsford, N.Y.) joined Cornachione on the All-Tournament Team.

Skidmore improved to 30-13, setting a new school record for victories, and will take on Keene State at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Falcon Park in Auburn, N.Y. Joining the Thoroughbreds and Keene State in the Auburn Regional are host and top-seeded SUNY Cortland, St. John Fisher, Oneonta State, Farmingdale State College at Brockport and Castleton.

Golf finished ninth at this year's NCAA championship in Hershey Park, Penn. Senior Brendan Singleton (Rye, N.H.) was Skidmore's top finisher, tying for 17 ^th with a 72-78-77-69-296. Fellow senior Chris DeJohn (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was the next top finisher for the Thoroughbreds, tying for 24 ^th.

Women's tennis advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after defeating Mount St. Mary 5-0 in the first round. Senior Laura Attley (Chatham, N.J.) won 6-0, 6-1 at number-three singles and teamed with sophomore Tory Engros (Bronxville, N.Y.) to win 8-1 at number-two doubles. Skidmore lost to No. 11 Tufts in the second round, 5-2.

Men's tennis also advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 5-1 win over Hunter. Juniors Lorenzo Cabrera (Daly City, Calif.) and Spencer Cheng (Bainbridge Island, Wis.) earned an 8-3 win at number-one doubles and Cabrera picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number-three singles.
