Reputation Management 101 to focus on use of social media

September 15, 2010

Keith PetriThe Office of Career Services will host a workshop Monday, Sept. 20 aimed at giving students a leg up in the job search by using social media for personal branding, networking and career advancement.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, "Reputation Management 101" will be led by Keith Petri '10, who is carving out personal branding via social media as a consulting specialty.

Among the topics Petri will cover:

  • Recent trends and developments in such key interactive spaces as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube;
  • How best to use these tools to build a strong personal brand, manage your reputation, and expand your career network;
  • How to protect your privacy online and avoid potential pitfalls;
  • How to make the most of Skidmore's career resources, both online and off.

"Most college students know all about how to use social media to connect socially, but have yet to develop a strategy for using social media to advance their careers," says Petri, a dual management and studio art major whose interests turned toward technology and marketing. "That's what this seminar is all about."

Shortly after graduating from Skidmore in May, Petri launched eBranding Me as his own consulting firm focused on helping peers make the most of online networking. You'll find his blog, where he writes regularly on social media topics, here.
