Golf team earns fourth straight Liberty League title

Skidmore golfers won their fourth consecutive Liberty League Championship this past weekend at Rochester. The Thoroughbreds shot a 297-291-588 to finish six strokes ahead of host University of Rochester. Junior Peter Anderson (Wellesley, Mass.) finished second overall to lead Skidmore, shooting a 72-73-145. Anderson, along with seniors Ryan Lloyd (Toronto, Ontario) and Matt Canavan (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), received All-Liberty League First Team honors after their performances. 

The 14 ^th-ranked field hockey team ended a successful week with victories over William Smith, Rochester, and at Oneonta. The highlight of the week was Friday's 5-0 win over 15 ^th-ranked and previously unbeaten William Smith. Senior Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and freshman Kelly Blackhurst (North River, N.Y.) scored in all three games. Kemp finished the week with three goals and five assists, while Blackhurst ended with five goals. Skidmore is now 6-1 overall, 3-0 in the league and will host 10 ^th-ranked Middlebury at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30.

Women's soccer finished the week with at 0-1-1, tying No. 6 William Smith and falling to Hamilton. Against the Herons, junior Elena Stanksy (Worcester, Mass.) scored off a rebound from senior Dana Brill (Newton, Mass.) to help the Thoroughbreds to a 1-1 tie. Junior Meghan Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) finished with eight saves on the weekend; playing all 200 minutes in goal. The Thoroughbreds' record stands at 3-3-2 overall, 0-1-1 in the league and they travel to No. 16 Amherst this Wednesday, Sept. 29, for a 4:30 kickoff.

Men's soccer also finished with a 0-1-1 record, tying No. 21 Hobart and losing to Hamilton.   Junior Diego Reinero (Princeton, N.J.) scored Skidmore's lone goal in the 1-1 tie at Hobart and sophomore Aaron Krepack (Mill Valley, Calif.) scored in the 2-1 loss at Hamilton. Junior goalie Nick Peterson (West Hartford, Conn.) made 15 saves on the weekend for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore is now 3-4-2 overall, 0-1-1 in the league and will host MCLA, Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
