Cooperstown artistic director Linda Chesis to perform

Flutist Linda Chesis will make her Skidmore College debut Sunday, March 6, in a matinee recital performance at Arthur Zankel Music Center. 

Pianist Steven Beck will accompany Chesis in the 3 p.m. concert in the Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall. General admission for the event will be $12; $5 for students. Tickets are available online at http://www.showclix.com/events/688

The program will include works by Jean-Marie Leclair, Lukas Foss, Randall Woolf, Francis Poulenc, Joseph Schwantner and Henri Dutilleux.

Founder and artistic director of the Cooperstown Chamber Music Festival, Chesis has been praised by critics for her "elegance, charm and fresh exuberant style."She has collaborated with such renowned artists as Jessye Norman, Dawn Upshaw, James Levine and the late Jean-Pierre Rampal, and has performed with orchestras and in solo recitals throughout the U.S., France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan and Korea.

The top prizewinner at the Paris and Barcelona international competitions and at the National Flute Association competition, Chesis has been the recipient of many awards, including a Solo Recitalist's Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She has been the subject of numerous television and radio broadcasts, and her performances can be regularly heard on National Public Radio's "Performance Today." She has recorded for the EMI, Nonesuch, and Music Masters labels. 



Chair of the woodwind department at Manhattan School of Music, Chesis teaches flute and chamber music there. 

Pianist Beck is a Juilliard graduate who studied with Seymour Lipkin, Peter Serkin, and Bruce Brubaker. The New Yorker magazine in 2005 called Beck "...one of the city's most admired young pianists..." 

Beck made his debut with the National Symphony Orchestra, and toured Japan as soloist with the New York Symphonic Ensemble. He has performed as soloist and chamber musician at the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress, Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, among many others.

He is an artist presenter at Bargemusic, where he recently performed all of the Beethoven piano sonatas, and he has premiered new works by Charles Wuorinen and Louis Karchin. He is a member of the Knights, counter)induction, Talea, Pleasure is the Law, and the new music ensemble Future in Reverse (FIRE).
