As spring season ends, 4 teams eye postseason options

Men's tennis brought home its eighth Liberty League Championship after defeating Vassar, 5-4 in the league championship during weekend play. The Thoroughbreds earned a berth in the finals after defeating St. Lawrence 9-0 in the quarterfinals. Senior Yahia Imam (Cairo, Egypt) and sophomore Alex Fromson (Newton, Mass.) both posted 2-0 records, winning at both singles and doubles. Skidmore is now 10-7 on the year and look to earn a spot in its fourth straight NCAA Tournament. 

The 11 ^th-ranked men's lacrosse team won the Liberty League regular-season title and clinched the top seed overall in the tournament after a 13-10 victory Saturday over Clarkson. Senior Matt Levesque (Duxbury, Mass.) scored five goals to lead the Thoroughbreds while junior Ryan Paradis (Brookside, N.J.) picked up 10 ground balls and junior goalie Connor Dowling (Darien, Conn.) finished with 15 saves. Skidmore is 11-3 on the season and will host RPI in the Liberty League semifinals Friday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.  

Baseball took three of four from St. Lawrence to secure a playoff berth and the right to defend its 2010 league championship. In Satuday's opener, freshman Jeremy Selecky (Roseland, N.J.) hit a walk-off double to give the Thoroughbreds a 6-5 victory. On Sunday, Skidmore picked up a pair of wins behind strong pitching and the bat of junior Zack Rudman (Pittsford, N.Y.), who finished the day 4-for-5 with a homerun and three RBI. The Thoroughbreds are now 24-8 overall and 11-7 in league play. They host New Paltz for a single nine-inning game Tuesday.

Women's lacrosse wrapped up its regular season with a 1-1 week. On Wednesday, Skidmore defeated Manhattanville 21-10 behind five goals and three assists from senior Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, Conn.) and six goals from junior Lauren Madden (Huntington, N.Y.). On Friday, the Thoroughbreds suffered a 13-7 loss to No. 2 Hamilton, but will have their chance to avenge the loss when they take on the Continentals this Friday in the Liberty League semifinals.

Golf earned a 70-stroke victory over St. Michael's this past week. Junior Peter Anderson (Wellesley, Mass.) shot a three-under to lead the way.Skidmore awaits its 25th NCAA Division III tournament bid for the May 10-13 event in Greensboro, N.C.

Softball wrapped up its season with a busy week, playing eight games in six days. Their week was highlighted by an extra-inning victory at Middlebury, ending the Panthers' 17-game winning streak. The Thoroughbreds closed the season with an 11-21 record. ~ By Cody Berschwinger
